Buying a Car Online with AllCars

How do I buy a car with AllCars?

Once you find the car you want, click Purchase on the vehicle details page to start placing an order. Enter some information including where you will want the car delivered, choose the right AllCars Protection Plan for you, and make a refundable $100 deposit on a debit or credit card.

The vehicle will be held for you after a successful deposit.

Can I finance my car with AllCars?

Yes! We help you save because we have a trusted network of lending partners that offer competitive rates. We will make sure you get the best rate available.

The application process takes place online when you know the amount you wish to finance. Take a few minutes to fill out our application form. We will call you with your terms.

What forms of payment does AllCars accept?

In addition to financing with us, AllCars accepts the following:

  • $100 in total in credit / debit card payments for your deposit
  • ACH bank drafts for payment of your vehicle online. You may need to notify your bank in advance to ensure they allow the transaction.
  • If you’re selling a vehicle to us that has negative equity, our AllCars Finance Manager will accept payment by debit card or wire transfer.

Why does AllCars require a $500 deposit?
The deposit puts a hold on your vehicle so no one else can purchase it. After you upload a copy of the front and back of your driver’s license and any other key documents required, we will send you a contract to e-sign and return within 2 business days to keep the hold on your vehicle. If the hold expires, your deposit will be refunded.
Do I have to finance through AllCars if I fill out an application?
No. Even if you decide to finance elsewhere, completing the application with AllCars will ensure you are better informed when you compare other offers for your financing.

Are the cars listed on your website inspected? How do I know if a vehicle is in good condition?

We will not sell you a car that we wouldn’t sell to someone in our own family.

Our experts check over 130 vehicle inspection points and, if needed, fix the vehicle before it is delivered to you. Each vehicle needs to be in good condition or we will not sell it.

We believe in full transparency into the history of our vehicles, including open safety recalls. On the car detail page we show some of the vehicle history and provide a way for you to get a complete report.

How do I know I'm getting a fair price?

Because our pricing is data-driven based on AllCars True Values, we do not inflate prices with the anticipation of negotiation like traditional dealerships. This means everyone receives the same fair price for every vehicle listed on our site. Our Value Meter on the car detail page shows you this value.

Our cost structure is lower because AllCars is not a traditional dealer. We do not have showrooms or other retail overhead, so we can pass savings on to you.

How does direct online buying of a car work?

First, search and select your next vehicle. On that vehicle’s detail page, select the purchase button. Answer a few questions before making a $100 deposit to hold the car for you. The information collected includes:

  • Personal information such as legal name, address, telephone number, and delivery address
  • Trade-In information including whether or not you wish to trade in a vehicle and the estimated trade-in value
  • Financing option selection, including financing through AllCars, third-party financing, or no financing
  • Protection Plans based on your needs

After reviewing the information, place your order and make your deposit. You will then be able to upload needed documents. We will contact you to arrange delivery right to you. Then you will have a full eight days or 250 miles, whichever comes first, to return the car or truck if it ends up not working out.

Can I get financing if I buy a vehicle online? How do I pay for my vehicle?

Yes, financing is available. There are three ways to pay for your vehicle:

  1. Finance through AllCars
  2. Finance with your own bank
  3. Pay for your vehicle in full via secure ACH bank transfer

Note that if you have a trade-in, AllCars will apply the amount toward the payment of your next vehicle after the paperwork is complete.

Will you give me a good offer for my trade-in?

Yes, we provide a fair offer for your vehicle. Our pricing is data-driven based on AllCars True Values.

Sell or Trade-In Your Vehicle

How does selling my vehicle to AllCars work?

You can sell or trade-in your vehicle entirely online.

How Selling Your Vehicle Works

  1. Start by getting your free appraisal by visiting Sell Your Car.
  2. If you accept our offer, we’ll provide the paperwork to complete the transaction from home.
  3. We will send out a third-party inspector to verify the condition of the vehicle.
  4. Once inspected and approved, we will provide a label and tracking number to send us the properly signed and notarized title, if applicable.
  5. We will then arrange ACH payment directly to your bank account or overnight a certified bank check.
Will the trade-in value I receive from AllCars change?
The trade-in value you receive from AllCars is valid for 10 days. The appraisal will not change as long as the information you entered was accurate.
What happens if I want my trade-in back?
We hang onto your trade during your eight (8) days or 250 miles, whichever comes first, test period of the vehicle we delivered to you for this very reason. If you return your AllCars vehicle and had traded in a car to us, we will return your trade-in to you.
What documentation is required on a trade-in or sale of my vehicle?

When selling your vehicle to AllCars or trading it in, you will be asked to provide pictures of the current odometer reading from your dashboard and driver’s licenses of the individuals listed on the title or registration.

If you own the vehicle outright, we will need a picture of the front and back of your title, including all four corners of the document.

If you have a lien on your vehicle, we will also need:

  1. a picture of your vehicle’s 10-day payoff statement
  2. a picture of the registration card

If your vehicle has negative equity, we will also need a picture of the front and back of a certified check for the amount of negative equity.

What is negative equity?
Negative equity is when you owe more on your current loan than the car is worth based on our offer.
When do I get paid?
Once we receive the title and paperwork, we will arrange payment before we pick up your vehicle. We can overnight the check to you or electronically transfer the funds to your bank account.
When and how will my remaining balance on my trade-in be paid?

Trade-in vehicles with current liens will be paid off once the sale is completed and after your eight (8) day or 250 miles, whichever comes first, test period.

If you choose to swap vehicles, we will wait to pay off your trade until the end of your second test period.

Will you price match or negotiate on my trade in value?
AllCars provides a haggle-free and hassle-free experience, so we provide our best offer up front. We do not price match or negotiate your sell or trade-in offer.

List Your Vehicle For Free

How do I list my vehicle so I can sell it on the AllCars site?

You can list and sell your vehicle entirely online and receive your asking price. After it sells, have it safely picked up contact-free. We handle the paperwork for you.

How Selling Your Vehicle Works

  1. Start by completing the sell form and choose to list your vehicle.
  2. Enter your asking price. The minimum asking price on our site is $4,000.
  3. Take 8 to 16 good photos of your vehicle, with a minimum of 4 exterior and 4 interior photos.
  4. We’ll review the photos and your listing usually goes live within a few hours of uploading them.
How does AllCars get paid?
To put it simply, we don’t. We love the car community, and we enjoy connecting buyers and sellers. We will never charge a dime to list your vehicle on allcars.com.
What happens if I want to change my asking price?
Just give us a call and we will update your asking price for you right away.
How do I remove my listing?
Go to your My Account, Sell tab and select “Remove Listing.”
How long is my listing on the site?
Most vehicles sell pretty quickly. Your listing will be on the site until it sells or 30 days have passed.
When do I get paid?
You will work directly with the buyer. Typically, buyers either overnight a check or electronically transfer funds to you. Our concierges will also step in and assist if there is a bump in the road.
How long does it take to have my listing approved and displayed on the site?
Listings usually go up on the site within a few hours, but no more than 24 hours if the uploaded photos are good.
How do I upload my images? How do I delete my images?
If you don’t upload them at the time you list your vehicle, go to My Account and select the Sell tab, then select upload files. This option appears if you submitted a listing where upload later was selected. There is also an option to remove your listing there.
What is the minimum price and maximum age for a vehicle to be on the AllCars site?
The minimum asking price is $4,000, and the maximum age for your vehicle is 10 years.
What happens if my car doesn't sell?

If your vehicle is not selling, you may call us to lower the listing price or ask for our ideas on why it might not be selling.

After 30 days, the listing goes away. You are free to start the process over with a new listing.

What about the 8-Day Test Drive and the Vehicle Inspection?

Vehicles listed by private sellers do not qualify for our AllCars 8-day test drive and 150-point inspection.

We suggest that buyers order their own pre-purchase inspection before buying a vehicle from someone they do not know. Our Concierges are available to assist in finding an inspection service in your area.

Financing with AllCars

How is my interest rate determined?
Your interest rate is based on your credit score, monthly income, loan amount, and down payment amount for our auto loans.
What credit score do I need?
AllCars offers auto loans for those with good, minimal, and poor credit histories, as long as you are 18 or older, make at least $5,000 per year, and have no active bankruptcies.
Can I use my own bank or credit union for financing?
Yes you can. When you are going through the purchase process on our website, you will see this as an option for financing auto loans.
If I have bad credit will I be able to get financing on AllCars?
Yes, as long as you are 18 or older and earn at least $5,000 a year and have no active bankruptcies. AllCars has auto loans for people with good, bad, and no credit.
Do people applying for auto loans with AllCars have an impact on their credit score?
For auto loans at AllCars, we run a simple credit inquiry to view your credit and determine the best possible lenders to work with you. The inquiry will, for most people, make an impact on their credit.
How long are my terms good for on a loan?
Terms on our loans are good for 45 days from the date you received them. If they expire, or your information changes, you can request new terms by completing another application.

Delivery

What does AllCars charge for delivery?
AllCars delivery fee varies from free to a maximum of $1,000 within the contiguous 48 states. The cost of delivery may be included in financing.
Is the delivery fee refundable?
Yes, the delivery fee is refundable if you decide to exchange or return your vehicle.
Can I pick up the vehicle myself?
No, it is not possible for you to pick up your vehicle. We do not offer this option in order to keep our operating costs lower so that we can pass the savings on to our customers.
How do I check on the status of my delivery?

How do you schedule my delivery?
Once the signed contract and funds are received, we schedule your delivery and email you an estimated date of delivery.
What if I need to change my delivery date or time?

What should I do when my vehicle arrives?

Here’s what to do when your vehicle arrives:

  1. Inspect the vehicle before signing the paperwork.
  2. Confirm the temporary registration tags are in place.
  3. If you are trading in a vehicle, remove all of your belongings.
  4. Make sure the vehicle is covered by insurance.
  5. Get in your new ride and take it for a spin.

Recalls

What is a safety recall?
A safety recall occurs when an auto manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a vehicle, or part of a vehicle, creates an unreasonable safety risk or fails to meet minimum safety standards. To find out more, visit the NHTSA website.
Are there other types of recalls?
Yes. Some recalls involve non-safety-related defects. Examples may include paint quality, cosmetic blemishes, or a radio that does not work properly.
How do I know if there is an open safety recall on a vehicle?

One way to check the recall status of a vehicle is to go to NHTSA Recalls and enter the vehicle’s VIN.

Does AllCars fix vehicles with unfixed, open safety recalls?
Manufacturers have not authorized independent dealers like AllCars to repair and close out open safety recalls. It is possible we will have some vehicles on our website that have safety recalls that have not been fixed.
What if a vehicle I want to buy has an open recall?
We encourage you to perform additional research on the recall before deciding to purchase the vehicle. After you own the vehicle, contact a manufacturer-authorized facility immediately, which is required to fix the open safety recall at no cost to you.
How will I find out about future recalls?

There are a few ways to stay informed about future recalls for your vehicle:

  1. Keep your vehicle registration up to date.
  2. Register your vehicle with the manufacturer as soon as you own it.
  3. Sign up to receive email notifications from NHTSA.

You have 8 days, or 250 miles, whichever comes first, to get to know your new vehicle from AllCars.

If you decide it is not right for you, we will help you exchange it for another vehicle or provide a refund. We will pick it up for free and refund a delivery fee if one was charged.
